AROCA - AGM - 13 September 2022 - Guest Speaker - Paul Bernasconi - Canada Bay Club
Dear Member,
As you would already be aware, the upcoming September Club night will be our Club's Annual General Meeting (AGM). This AGM will include a Special Resolution, relating to a number of updates to the Club's Constitution and will require the membership to vote on its acceptance. This message is to alert you to the importance of this meeting as it relates to the operation of the Club. The formal notice and associated documentation are attached to this e-mail. The related changes to the Constitution are designed to match current practices whilst conforming to the State Government's Act related to incorporated Associations. They can be summarized as follows;
- "Club Rules" name changed to Constitution - as prescribed by Fair Trading NSW for incorporated bodies.
- Changes to the purpose of the Club and its activities, which more accurately reflect an inclusive element in the way the club operates today and for the future.
- Changes throughout the document to reflect modern communication mechanisms, including social media platforms, and to align these activities with modern expectations and new Government requirements
- Changes in the acceptable methods for communicating with members to align with modern practice and regulated requirements whilst identifying these in one section of the Constitution.
- Changes to facilitate virtual meetings, including their use for any purpose, in the event physical meetings are not possible, and meet new requirements as prescribed by Fair Trading NSW.
- Expansion of the Club's Executive Committee by one to include the Competition Secretary
- Clarifications on due dates and deadline for payment of membership fees and the impacts of late payment to align with Transport NSW Regulations for Historic Vehicle Registration and to encourage timely payment of membership fees.
- Clarification that the late payment of fees beyond 90 days will require a new application for Club membership.
- rewording and changes to ensure the whole of the Constitution document is consistent as regards membership payments, lapse of membership and consequence of delayed payments.
- rewording to allow for a wider range of appropriate Finance and Accounting professionals to be able to audit the Club's accounts.
- Reformatting for consistent text, terminology, font style and paragraph identification.
The AGM will of course include the election of officers, requiring the vote of the membership.
Guest Speaker. As is the tradition at our AGM, Paul Newby has managed to secure a very special guest speaker, Paul Bernasconi. Paul has an impressive motor racing CV. In 1975 he was the Australian Formula Ford Champion. This led to drives with the Alfa Romeo Dealer team's 2000 GTV for the 1975 Manufacturers Championship which included the Bathurst 1000. He raced with Gold Star Champion Max Stewart in Formula 5000 before moving to England racing a RALT for Ron Tauranac in Formula 3 in 1976-77 against drivers such as Geoff Brabham and Nelson Piquet. Paul is a current AROCA NSW Club member and tinkers with his 2016 Giulietta QV and a 'swarm' of Vespas!
On behalf of your committee, we look forward to seeing you on September 13 at the Canada Bay Club.
